2K Games wanted to do something big for WWE2k20. So instead of rolling with the cover star we were given, we pushed to make the WWE’s newest sensation—Becky Lynch—the cover star.
Becky was in the midst of a meteoric rise through the ranks of the WWE, and we convinced the powers that be to make Becky the first ever female Superstar to grace the cover of the game.
Becky was figuratively entering the boys club and smashing through the glass ceiling, so asking her to literally do it and Step Inside the most exclusive world of professional wrestling to date, wasn’t too much of a stretch. The media loved it, and the press was overwhelmingly positive, leading to record sales numbers for the WWE2k franchise in both digital and physical preorders.
Arguably the best part of working within the world of professional wrestling, is the sheer amount of visual ephemera involved. I never thought I’d get the opportunity to design, produce and shoot a stained glass window of Hulk Hogan bodyslamming Andre the Giant at Wrestlemania III, but I did. Hulk was a big fan.
